Addo Elephant National Park

Gorah Elephant Camp
Riverbend Lodge

Situated in the dense valley bushveld of the Sundays River region of the Eastern Cape, the Addo Elephant National Park is a finely tuned ecosystem providing sanctuary to over 420 elephants, 450 Cape buffalo, black rhino, a variety of antelope species, as well as the unique flightless dung beetle, found almost exclusively in Addo. An area of unrivalled natural diversity, with five of South Africa's seven major vegetation zones and the Big 7 (elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo, leopard, whales and great white sharks) in their natural habitat, there are plans to expand the Park to encompass a marine protected area that includes islands that are home to the world's largest breeding colonies of Cape gannets and African penguins.

Amakhala Game Reserve

Bukela Game Lodge

Hlosi Game Lodge

Situated in the Greater Addo and Frontier Country area of the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa is the malaria-free Amakhala Game Reserve.  On Amakhala Game Reserve's 18 000 acres the animals that you are likely to encounter are: lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo, cheetah, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, monkeys, tortoise and plenty of antelope species.  You might be lucky and see some of the more elusive and shy animals like hyena or bat eared fox.  The reserve hosts five of the worlds six vegetation biomes, bushveld to savannah.  For a change of pace relax on board the boat cruise while meandering lazily along the Bushman's River.

Kapama Private Game Reserve

Kapama Main and River Lodge

Kapama Private Game Reserve occupies a vast area between the northern Drakensberg mountains and the Greater Kruger National Park.  It is the largest single-owner game reserve in the region.  Kapama Game Reserve is in Limpopo Province, an area renowned for superb safari vacations.  Kapama's 13000 hectares has all the big game of Africa with 42 mammal species and approximately 350 bird species.  This equates to huge natural diversity and includes the famed 'Big 5' - lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino.  Game drives are conducted through the rolling savannah grasslands and riverine forests that make up this appealing African reserve.

Karongwe Private Game Reserve

Shiduli Lodge

The Karongwe Private Game Reserve comprises 8 500ha of African bushveld created by private landowners.  In 1998 one decided to drop fences to be able to restore the land, which has been agricultural land, back to those conditions which are believed to constitute its natural state, maintaining the balance of species and flora and fauna. The Karongwe Association was founded in 2001 and the members are also the directors of Karongwe Game who owns and protects the animal species.  Currently there are over 40 mammal species in the Reserve, including the Big Five Lion, Leopard, Rhino, Elephant and Buffalo. The Reserve maintains a clean buffalo project.  Karongwe Private Game Reserve is situated in the Arid Central Lowveld region, east of the Drakensberg Mountains in the Limpopo Province.  Altitude varies from around 480 metres above sea level on the Makutswe River in the north to 560 metres above sea level at Beacon Rock in the central southern area.  The landscape within the reserve is characterized by undulating terrain, interspersed with rocky outcrops.  The main vegetation type is Mixed Lowveld Bushveld.

Ivory Tree Game Lodge

Pilanesberg Game Reserve is in the Bojanala Region of the North West Province, adjacent to Sun City.  Set in the crater of a long extinct volcano, the Park ranks among the largest of the parks in South Africa (it is in fact the fourth largest park) and covers an area of 55 000 hectare.  The beauty of Pilanesberg is reflected in a large central lake, the Mankwe Dam.  Over time, wind and water have carved a spectacular landscape with rocky outcrops, open grasslands, wooded valleys and thickets.  Pilanesberg National Park accommodates virtually every mammal of southern Africa. Also home to the Big Five.  The park exists within the transition zone between the dry Kalahari and wetter Lowveld vegetation, commonly referred to as "Bushveld". Unlike any other large park, unique overlaps of mammals, birds and vegetation occur because of this transition zone.   Springbok, brown hyena, the red eyed bulbul, and camel thorn trees usually found in arid areas are found cohabitation with moist-area-limited impala, black eyed bulbul and Cape chestnut trees.

The Pongola Game Reserve was first proclaimed in 1894 and is the second oldest reserve in the world. Exactly 100 years ago after the last sighting of elephant in the Pongola area, two breeding herds were reintroduced. Birdlife is prolific due to the diversity of habitats, with in excess of 350 species recorded.

Pongola Game Reserve is a co-operative conservation project between private landowners, tribal communities and government conservation services, and aims to form the heart of a large ecological and socio-economically viable "Big Five" reserve. Allied to this quest the "Space for Elephant" Foundation has been formed to realise the goal of a biosphere large enough to viably sustain an elephant population of a thousand elephants and allow the re-establishment of the ancient elephant migration routes.
